Gibson County Ambulance Service History
On January 1, 1976, the Gibson County Ambulance Service was inaugurated at midnight. The service began with six Basic Emergency Medical Technicians working 24-hour shifts. The first six crew members were Alan Beckner, Jan Land, Tim Gilmore, Larry Crooks, David Rhinefort & Jerry Overton.
The service started with two hearse style ambulances leased from a local funeral home. The crews were stationed in Gibson General Hospital ER later moving down to the morgue. By the end of 1976 we had three ambulances, one location in Princeton, one location in Oakland City, and crews had responded to approximately 1,435 911 calls.
Currently we man four stations in the county 24/7. The Gibson County Ambulance Service has provided the community with a Paramedic level service since January 1, 2000. We currently have 24 full-time and 10 part-time employees on our roster. We also have 3 full-time office employees. Crews respond to a variety of 911 calls as well as emergent and non-emergent transfers. Crews respond to approximately 5,400 calls annually.
