We’ll set you up with a time to visit us and meet the animals. We’re open Tuesday through Saturday, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
If you haven’t already, take a look at our available animals! You can browse images of dogs, cats, and other critters on Petfinder or on our Facebook page.
If you already have chosen a pet you’d like to take home, let us know and we’ll make sure you’re introduced!

Our mission is to make life fun and enjoyable for both the you and your adopted pet by carefully pairing the right animal with the right owner. We make sure each animal is adopted into a permanent loving home.
That’s why you’ll always get a chance to get to know the temperament and personality of the animal you’re interested in before committing to adoption.
You’ll be provided with a large exercise area in front of the shelter where you and the pet you’d like to adopt can get to know each other.
Once you have chosen your new pet, the staff may ask you for a reference. Please do not be offended or upset! We try very hard to make sure the animals passing through our doors go to permanent residence in the best and most loving homes possible.
After we have verified your references, you will be given a copy of our adoption contract to read and sign.
After the adoption paperwork is complete, we’ll give you a voucher to present to your veterinarian to cover the cost of spaying or neutering your pet. Note: All unaltered animals must be spayed or neutered. All purebred animals will be altered prior to adoption completion.
GCAS is a limited space shelter. Our policy is that we cannot hold animals.
If you live farther than 100 miles from Gibson County and are applying for adoption online, we must receive all requested information within 2 business days. Once approved, you must pay the adoption fee and make arrangements to pick up the animals within 3 business days.
Gibson County Animal Services has adopted a specific policy regarding American Pit Bull Terriers, American Staffordshire Terriers, Staffordshire Bull Terriers, Bull Terriers, Mastiffs, Saint Bernards, Rottweilers, Presa Canarios, Cane Corsos and other large breed dogs.
All prospective adopters must be at least 21 years of age and a homeowner.
All prospective adopters must pass a home check.
We will not adopt out a dog to an area that has breed-specific legislation banning or restricting the particular breed.
We developed this policy not out of prejudice, but out of respect and concern for these breeds.
Because of irresponsible pet ownership on the part of a few thugs, many breeds have been maligned by the press, which has caused a public backlash. Many insurance companies refuse to insure these breeds and many apartment complexes and landlords won’t rent to people with breeds such as pit bulls.
It is difficult for shelters to place these animals, so we want to ensure any adopted from Gibson County Animal Services will go to a forever home.
GCAS does not euthanize for lack of space or time limits. GCAS only euthanizes for chronic illness without relief from pain or hope of recovery, severe life threatening injury, loss of quality of life, and any animal which exhibits a danger to other animals or human life.
G.C.A.S Is an Open Admission Shelter. This means that we will accept every pet that arrives at our doors. Even when full, we work with rescues and fosters to do everything in our power to save lives!
